8 January 2012 - The Cho-Liang Lin Violin Masterclass, jointly presented by LYJMFC and Premiere Performances Hong Kong (PPHK), was successfully held on 8 January 2012 at the Recital Hall of the HKAPA. Renowned violinist Cho-Liang Lin, who is the Artistic Director for this year's Hong Kong International Chamber Music Festival, presided over the performances of 4 talented young violinists selected by LYJMFC to receive the Lin Yao Ji Masterclass Scholarship. In front of an audience of nearly 100 observers, Lin offered guidance to each of the 4 players, ranging from technical instructions to suggestions on musical interpretation and phrasing.

Speaking after the event, Wei Lin Sigurgeirsson, Chairman of LYJMFC, expressed her sincere gratitude to Lin and congratulated the players on their performances. "We definitely see a lot of potential in local talent. Today's masterclass is proof of that. Where we come in is to offer the right type of exposure for them to reach the next level, both in terms of musicality and technical proficiency. This learning experience from Cho-Liang is invaluable for these young players in so many ways, and we hope to continue providing these learning opportunities."

The Cho-Liang Lin Violin Masterclass is part of a series of two stringed instrument masterclasses hosted jointly by LYJMFC and PPHK. The cello masterclass will take place next Saturday (14 January 2012) from 3 to 5pm at a private venue in the Mid-Levels.
