The LYJ Music Foundation is a company limited by guarantee established under the laws of Hong Kong SAR which has been awarded charitable organization status by the Inland Revenue Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and is listed on WiseGiving.
The Foundation has established and operates 5 core programs and initiatives:
(1) Masterclass
We actively organize masterclasses for string chamber music to advance the musicality and technique of music students. All events are open to the public. We intend to host 2 to 3 masterclasses on an annual basis. The current focus will be on string players, with a view to gradually extending to benefit players of other instruments.

(3) Pro-Am
Riding on the overwhelming response received by the Amateur Chamber Music Showcase held in January 2013 as part of the 4th HKICMF, the Foundation officially launched the Pro-Am intiative (三融室樂雅聚) on 25 May 2013, during the Pro-Am Chamber Music Workshop featuring Juilliard Professor Lewis Kaplan. This initiative is designed to encourage life-long music making and build closer ties amongst professional musicians, amateurs and music lovers, hence the name "三融室樂雅聚". We believe this will provide a nurturing environment for younger professionals. Deeper engagement of amateurs in life-long music making would not only help secure and enlarge the audience base for chamber music, but also influence future generations of Hong Kong’s instrumental students to have music-making form an integral part of their lives well beyond school years.
(4) Scholarships and awards
In line with Professor Lin Yao Ji’s legacy and lifelong work, the Foundation seeks to identify and nurture young music talents by, amongst other things, establishing scholarships that directly benefit young musicians who aspire to pursue full time careers in arts and music performance.
Support for recipients may include:
- Affiliation with the Foundation and recognition as a recipient of its Scholarship Program;
- Tuition with a renowned artist affiliated with the Foundation;
- Support in the selection and arrangement of a suitable teacher as well as the provision of instruments;
- Assistance in connecting with established artists and their master-classes; and
- Financial support to attend established music programs to further their technique and musicality.
