Foundation to raise funds for youth-led chamber music outreach initiative "Project DISCOVER"
06/08/2012 (Mon)

August 6 2012 - The Lin Yao Ji Music Foundation of China (LYJ Music Foundation) is proud to partner with Project DISCOVER (PD) to launch a series of community outreach initiatives.

The LYJ Music Foundation and PD will host its first fundraising concert on 25 August 2012, at Li Hall, St. John's Cathedral, Garden Road, Hong Kong. The concert will start at 6:30pm, and will feature a romantic but exhilarating chamber music repertoire with violinist Olivia Mok and cellist Marcus Mok, co-founders of PD, together with their friends, renowned pianist Rachel Cheung, violinist Doris Lee, violist Johnny Ng, all highly accomplished young musicians in their own right. HKPO cellist Anna Kwan and acclaimed pianist Yu Pui Sze have also kindly agreed to make a special appearance.

The venue for the fund-raising recital, Li Hall, is of a cozy atmosphere with a limited seating capacity of 100, which is ideal for chamber music. Tickets are sold at $500 each in order to be affordable to our peer supporters. Concert starts at 6.30pm with drinks served from 6pm.

About Project DISCOVER - a new youth-initiated project founded by Olivia and Marcus Mok, is dedicated to heightening the awareness and appreciation for classical chamber music in the greater Hong Kong community.  PD hopes to present a chamber music program in venues that would reach members of the ordinary public regardless of age and social sector, who might not have previously been drawn to classical music performed in formal settings, and would not have been familiar with chamber music repertoire.  As a longer term goal, it also aims to serve as a supportive platform for student instrumentalists outside the regular instrumental lesson and school orchestras, by providing free coaching on chamber music performance by music professionals and conservatory graduates, and to provide performance opportunities for mutual learning and appreciation amongst students. PD will be launching its first community outreach initiative- "Mall Music"- in partnership with the LYJ Music Foundation, where an audience-friendly programme will be presented in shopping malls in diverse areas of Hong Kong, offering guidance in the appreciation of the classical music genre by means of pre-performance introductions and narration, touching on a varied repertoire appealing to all tastes.

As a pilot project, financial support from sponsors and donors is a crucial factor towards its success.  The recital is to raise funds for the above-described chamber music outreach project and to further future projects with a similar goal. The LYJ Music Foundation, a registered charitable organization recognized by WiseGiving, will hold and manage the funds to be raised and ensure their proper utilization.
