The Lin Yao Ji Music Foundation (LYJ Music Foundation) co-presented the vibrant community outreach youth initiative, Project DISCOVER, in an inaugural fund-raising concert on 25th August 2012. Co-founders of Project DISCOVER, Olivia and Marcus Mok, joined forces with young artists Rachel Cheung (piano), Doris Lee (violin) and Johnny Ng (viola) in presenting a sumptuous chamber music fare, featuring extracts from the Dvorak piano quintet, Schubert double cello quintet, Franck violin sonata and Rachmaninoff cello sonata. They were joined by guest artists Anna Kwan (cello) and Yu Pui Sze (piano). The packed audience was stunned by the exuberant passion of the artists and enjoyed the intimacy in the music-making at Li Hall, St John's Cathedral.
Project DISCOVER aims to bring chamber music to a wider community by presenting interactive educational performances of chamber music in openly accessible venues, and in due course in schools and other institutions, where interested players will receive free coaching and co-perform with young professionals. The generous donations received by the LYJ Music Foundation are gratefully acknowledged, and will be used in forthcoming events to broaden the reach of chamber music in Hong Kong.
