Violin Masterclass and Pro-Am Chamber Music Workshop with Professor Lewis Kaplan

The Lin Yao Ji Music Foundation of China (LYJ Music Foundation) is proud to host a series of masterclasses and chamber music workshops, taught by Professor Lewis Kaplan, for violinists and chamber music ensembles. 


LEWIS KAPLAN is co-founder of the Bowdoin International Music Festival, founder of the Aeolian Chamber Players, and a member of the violin and chamber music faculty at the Juilliard School and the Mannes College of Music. 

Mr. Kaplan has been appointed Visiting Professor of Violin at the Royal College of Music in London and was also named among the Top 100 Musicians of the Year by the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England. His former students include world renowned soloists and chamber musicians. He has toured throughout the U.S., Europe, and the Far East both as a soloist and in chamber concerts. He has made joint solo and chamber performances with Michael Rabin, Jaime Laredo, Emanuel Ax, Szymon Goldberg, and Julius Baker, and given premieres of numerous works for solo violin by major American, European, and Asian composers. He is the conductor of the Bowdoin Festival Orchestra. Mr. Kaplan is a juror in high demand by numerous international competitions. He has recorded for Columbia, CRI , Folkways, and Odyssey Records.

Mr Kaplan is a Recipient of the Knights Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and is the 2011/12 Holder of the William Schuman Scholar’s Chair at the Juilliard School.

PRO-AM CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP

Professional as well as amateur musicians are encouraged to form ensembles to showcase chamber music repertoire of not more than 12 minutes in duration, and will be given constructive comments and coaching by Professor Kaplan following their performance. Places for the Workshop are limited, and applications will be closed once slots are full. An entry fee of HK$200 per participating group will be charged for the Workshop as a contribution to the cost of the rental of the venue.
